Modern design houses located in the close-in eastside neighborhoods of Portland are extremely hard to find. Finished in 2006, this house is located in the Mt Tabor neighborhood.
The house exemplifies the attitude that a small footprint of intelligent design will provide a generous and fulfilling living environment in a close-in urban environment. Light and fresh describes the space well. All rooms except the bathrooms connect directly to the outdoors. Large skylights are present thruout. These indoor-outdoor connections along with the generous use of oversized glass doors and windows effectively expand the living space from lot line to lot line. (The lot is a large sourth facing corner plot.) The site has been landscaped to enhance the indoor outdoor connection and provide privacy.
Stained concrete floors with in-slab radiant heat, exposed roof beams and natural wood ceilings provide natural "earth" elements which are set off by the white level five quality smooth finished sheet rocked walls. All major rooms are wired for sound with in-wall speakers and volume controls. An in wall i-pod docking station is provided. The plasma TV and audio system with receiver and dvd player are included with the house (exclude sub-woofer located in living room). Both patio areas of the house have exterior speakers installed. CATV and coax wiring is run thruout the house. Kitchen appliances are Electrolux professional grade. Bathrooms are furnished with high quality finishes and fixtures including Duravit Phillipe Starck wall hung toilets.
The in-floor radiant heat system uses a high efficiency gas fired hot water heater that provides both heat and domestic hot water. The roof is a TPO membrane with poly-iso insulation. Windows and exterior doors are Milgard high efficiency black anodized thermo-break aluminum. Exterior siding is oiled mahogany. The detached garage is fully insulated and finished with level five sheet rock installation with the idea that someone might want to convert it to studio or work space.
